A vacancy exists for one full-time Transplant Nurse under the Outpatient Surgical Specialty Care Service Line. The incumbent will be responsible for! many different functions including data entry of the Transplant program database, and health screening and providing information about donor criteria and the donor process. The incumbent will coordinate care of Transplant patients with referring VA facilities.

Other duties will include:

  • Coordinates the care with local providers to manage the care of the transplant patient from evaluation, to transplant and through the duration of the functioning transplant. Patients consist of potential recipients, renal donors and the transplant patient.
  • Acts as a liaison between the patientÂ's MD, surgeon, nephrologist, pharmacist and social worker in IA City to the patientÂ's coordinators to their local VAÂ's for a smooth transition.
  • Transplant Coordinator is responsible for sharing on-call nursing support 24/7 with team.
  • Function of the Coordinator consists of new and return evaluation assessments, along with post-transplant asses! sments.
  • Frequent monitoring of labs with medication r! econciliations
  • Data collection and reporting to UNOS, Iowa Donor Network, NSQIP
WORK SCHEDULE: 8:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Note: This position often requires intermittent unplanned extension of the regular tour of duty as patient care needs dictate. This position also takes call.

Qualifications & Evaluations

Citizen of the United States.
Graduate of a school of professional nursing.
Proficient in spoken and written English.
Experience with transplant patients preferred.
2-3 years of RN experience preferred.
Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected.
