Job Specific Duties/Essential Functions Ensures that the Pharmacy Department delivers quality and timely services by maintaining an orderly workflow for all medication dispensing activities. Ensures the integrity and maintenance of an adequate medication supply and ensures strict control and accountability of medications. Manages pharmacy technology as it relates to the safe handling and dispensing of medications. Develops, approves, interprets, communicates, and enforces! hospital, departmental, and medication management policies, procedures, and standards to achieve departmental objectives. Stays abreast of applicable federal and state laws and professional standards of practice; monitors and assures compliance with outpatient focus including ACO, Medical Home, e-consults and other growth opportunities. Maintains appropriate records in order to assure that the quality, quantity and timeliness of work done can be documented. Determines feasibility of new programs and services and develops new and improved services within assigned area through constant evaluation and innovation. Analyzes and implements quality improvement measures for improving organizational and pharmacy department performance. Participates in tracking medication errors and develops/implements improved procedures to minimize and prevent medication errors and to improve medication safety. Develops and maintains an active competency and in-service program for pharmacists and ! technicians. Demonstrates fiscal accountability for department resource! s and the ability to achieve expected quality outcomes within the allocated resources while using benchmarking, data, state of science evidence to lower costs. Responsible for inventory management and for maintaining a fixed level of medication and supplies while managing or lowering costs. Manages the institutions drug shortage program; including operational and therapeutic assessments, shortage impact analysis, and establishing, communicating, and implementing the final plan. Supports educational mission through didactic and/or experiential training of pharmacy students and pharmacy interns. Sustains professional competence and promotes development through participation in in-services, workshops, seminars, and professional organizations. Serves as a liaison between pharmacy, nursing, departments, including ACO, Medical Home, and potential growth relationships to achieve expected results and resolve problems. Manages human resource related issues (scheduling, hiring, promo! tion, training, competency assessment and dealing with personnel and performance issues) for direct reports and other staff members. Works with staff on an ongoing basis to improve performance, guiding and coaching staff in solving problems including completion of performance evaluations and providing feedback to direct reports. Coordinates, leads, and records team and department staff meetings coordinating with Assistant Director Inpatient and Pharmacy Director. Gathers, interprets, and effectively communicates departmental, organizational, and industry information inter- and intra-departmentally. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a team inter- and intra-departmentally to facilitate the department's ability to meet its goals and objectives. Develops an MTM program to capture value in current and future ACO and other shared risk programs. Coordinates outpatient clinic responses to commercial quality performance programs relating to pharma! ceutical treatment of disease conditions. Develops an outpatient pharma! cy benefit structure for our self-insured employees. Develops a comparative cost effectiveness strategy for outpatient pharmacy services related to our clinics, hospice and home care. Manages specialty pharmaceutical utilization within various departments of the system. Works collaboratively with Business Health Solutions to develop and implement customer-specific pharmaceutical benefits management strategies. Professional Experience 5 years hospital experience, Preferred. Previous supervisor/management experience, preferred.
Education
Doctorate of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in pharmacy, required. Postgraduate yr 1 (PGY-1) and Postgraduate yr 2 (PGY-2) residency, preferred
Licensure, Certification, Registration
Current Pharmacist licensure in the State of Iowa, required.
