Pikkala plant manufactures low voltage, medium voltage, high voltage and extra high voltage (up to 525kV) cables. Pikkala plant is Prysmian Group Center of Excellence in submarine manufacturing with more than 200 million euro investments ongoing to expand our production capacity significantly.

Submarine cable Jointers

The jointing department is responsible for making factory joints to connect batches of the same type of cable to form a longer cable length. The operation is complex, involves several steps and many tools and machines. The jointing process is manually rebuilding each layer of cable
- Manufacturing submarine cable joints (MV / HV / EHV)
- Performing submarine cable repairs, when needed.
- Sealing of cable ends.
- Support tasks for other production areas when required
- Experience in manufacturing work and availability to work in a shift regime.
- Proactive attitude and good practical problem solving in a factory environment
- Precision and capability to carefully follow the procedure and instructions given.
- Good teamwork skills: the assigned tasks are usually performed in team.
- Good communication attitude: both towards supervisors and with colleagues.
- Availability to travel: either for training or to support other Prysmian factories.
- Finnish language skills.
- Sufficient English proficiency (reading, speaking, writing) is essential: the factory is an international environment with some foreign colleagues and supervisors.
- Basic computer skills (reading/sending emails, opening, modifying, and saving very simple excel and word files) are needed.
- Enthusiasm for learning.
- A challenging and technologically versatile working environment.
- An extensive training during which the new jointer is followed by supervisors to illustrate equipment and methods and evaluate his level. The duration is several months but it depends on the skills of the trainee (the more skilled, the shorter). The aim is to make the trainee an autonomous jointer.
- Development opportunities: possibility to widen the skills' set by getting new qualifications, depending on the production urgencies and demands.
The work begins according to the agreement, and it is a permanent employment relationship. The employment relationship follows the collective agreement of Technology Industries of Finland.
