Assists the Registered Pharmacist in technical functions of the practice of hospital pharmacy by following established regulat! ions, standards and practices. Theses duties may include, but are not limited to: inventory management, distribution of medication to other departments, record-keeping, quality improvement projects, purchasing/receiving from vendors, unit dose packaging, IV admixture, fiscal inventory assistance, return goods processing, replenish PYXIS medications and unit dose cart fill for checking by pharmacist.
Must have a working knowledge of pharmacy technician scope of practice. Must have knowledge of inventory management practices, proper stocking procedures, revenue capture process, and the ability to utilize existing and new systems/technology as the profession of pharmacy evolves. When students are providing patient care, treatment, and/or services as a part of their training, any/all employees may be asked to supervise the students
Required Skills
Mandatory annual education as required by the facility and as required by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy.
Prior experience preferred but not required.
Mu! st be registered and maintain certification with the Iowa Board of Pharmacy. All pharmacy technicians and all individuals training to work as pharmacy techs are required to register with the Board by completing and submitting a new application for registration within 30 days of accepting employment as a certified pharmacy technician or technician trainee in an Iowa pharmacy. Must be nationally certified by an accredited technician certification board. Currently accredited boards are the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board ( PTCB ) and the Institute for the Certification of Pharmacy Technicians ( ICPT ).
