The Outpatient Pharmacy Supervisor, must be a licensed Pharmacist, preferably with a Pharm.D., MS, or advanced degree. The incumbent is responsible for the professional and administrative management of all outpatient pharmacy areas (e.g., outpatient pharmacy prescription dispensing, controlled substance distribution and accountability, drug information, seamless transition between inpatient and outpatient care services, medication reconciliation program (primarily focusing on proper discharge process). A primary function of the Pharmacy Supervisor is to direct and coordinate the daily workflow and operational activities within the Outpatient Pharmacy, as well as manage and coordinate comprehensive pharmaceutical care services ! for ambulatory care programs located within the Iowa City VA Health Car! e System and associated Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs), as well as the State Veterans Home in Quincy, Illinois. These activities include helping to coordinate staff scheduling and staff assignments, as well as workflow monitoring and management, directing veteran and non-veteran patient customer service, and occasionally working on-line as a pharmacist, if needed. The Pharmacy Supervisor will be responsible for supervising multiple pharmacists and technicians, as well as providing oversight to trainees and volunteers that work within the area. The Outpatient Pharmacy Supervisor must manage people, maintain effective interdepartmental relations, exhibit effective problem resolution skills, and cooperate with other services to accomplish the medical facilityÂ's mission and goals. Additional duties include: assuring that the outpatient pharmacy areas are compliant with all regulatory and accrediting body requirements, designing and implementing orientation and trai! ning programs for staff, developing and performing ongoing competency assessments, and maintaining systems to monitor the performance of staff activities. The Outpatient Pharmacy Supervisor develops policies and procedures relative to his/her assigned area.

The incumbent assists with the training responsibilities for Pharmacy residents and students during their rotational period through the Outpatient pharmacy areas, as well as for the Outpatient staff on an ongoing basis. Monitors and provides first-line oversight of all outpatient pharmacy work-related activities (e.g., provider order entry activities, patient counseling / medication reconciliation activities, and controlled substance processing). May adjust staffing and personnel assignments based on workload needs to assure personnel resources are properly and adequately utilized.

The incumbent performs other duties as assigned and deemed essential to the efficient operation of Pharmacy Service. Incumb! ent may be required to periodically work irregular shifts as required a! nd may occasionally be called back in emergencies. The incumbent will report directly to the Associate Chief of Pharmacy Operations. In the absence of the Chief and Associate Chief of Pharmacy Operations, the Outpatient Pharmacy Supervisor may be required to assume the essential responsibilities and perform the duties of the Chief of Pharmacy. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

In accordance with VA Handbook 5005/55, Part II Appendix G15, dated June 7, 2012.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
a. Citizenship: Citizen of the United States.

b. Education:
(1) Graduate of a degree program in pharmacy from an approved college or university. The degree program must have been approved by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE), or prior to the establishment of ACPE, have been a member of the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy (AACP).
(2) Graduates of foreign pharmacy degree programs meet the educational requirement if the! ir degree is found to be equivalent to degree programs recognized by the ACPE. This finding may be based on any of the following:
(a) A letter of acceptance into a U.S. graduate pharmacy program recognized by the ACPE.
(b) Written certification from the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission, 700 Busse Highway, Park Ridge, IL 60068 Phone (847) 698-6227, that the individual has successfully passed the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination.
(c) A letter from a U.S. college or university with a pharmacy degree program recognized by ACPE stating that the individualÂ's foreign pharmacy degree has been evaluated and found to be equivalent to its Bachelor of Pharmacy degree.
c. Licensure: Full, current and unrestricted licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia.
d. English Language Proficiency : Must be proficient in spoken and written English.
c. Physical Requirements: This occupation requires a pre-employment physical examination. All N! on-VA applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in any designate position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. Applicants who refuse to be tested will be denied.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :
Completion of the equivalent of one year of creditable professional pharmacy experience at the next lower grade level (GS-12). The experience must evidence possession of supervisory and management skills.
