:

This position is responsible for the nursing practice and management of care for the residents in their assigned neighborhood. This position is also responsible for supervising, orienting, and instructing nursing staff in their designated neighborhood.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

:

· Develops and maintains service! objectives and standards of nursing practice, develops nursin! g service policies and procedures.

· Orients, instructs and supervises personnel and functions.

· Coordinates nursing services with other departments.

· Regularly inspects facility and nursing practice for compliance with Federal, State, and Local standards and regulations.

· Collects, organizes, and maintains all information needed for completion of the Minimum Data Set.

· Accurately completes MDS's and care plans on a timely basis.

· Serves as On-Call supervisor in rotation with other appropriate staff.

· Develops and maintains nursing objectives and standards for their assigned neighborhood.

· Assures residents of a comfortable, clean, orderly, and safe environment.

· Assists with the provision of care to residents and participate in social and activity programs in order to help meet the physical, mental, social and spiritual needs of the residents to promote a hap! py, safe, and fulfilling environment.

· Interviews applicants with DON/ADON and gives input on approval or rejection of hiring.

· Ensures personnel who are not qualified or who violate policies of BDRC, after conferring with DON, follow the disciplinary process.

· Works with Social Worker on coordination of resident admissions and discharges.

· Performs monthly medication review with Pharmacist.

· Identifies and solves departmental and personnel problems.

· Advises and consults with administration and DON on nursing administration and resident care.

· Prepares and submits required reports, and maintains statistics as directed.

· Compliance the nurse practice act.

· Communicating with medical staff, other department heads, nursing personnel, residents, and their relatives.

· Reviews resident charts to see that doctor visits are in compliance with Federal an! d State regulations and that plan of care is followed.

· Ma! intains confidentiality regarding all resident and personnel information.

· Responsible for accurate and timely completion of MDS's for their neighborhood.

· Monitors all documentation for residents on skilled level of care, to assure they meet Medicare guidelines for the appropriate level of care.

· Responsible for coordination of required documentation for skilled level of care, to include; physician's certification form with accurate dates, therapies documentation, and nurse's notes reflecting the need for SNF care.

· Make recommendations regarding need for continued SNF care based on input from nursing staff, therapies, and resident status.

· Attends Department Head meetings, Professional Staff meetings and Quality Assurance.

· Promotes public relations and maintains liaison with other nursing service directors.

· Keeps current in the filed of nursing through attendance at meetings, conf! erences, conventions, and workshops.

· Reads current literature pertaining to all aspects of resident care and restoration/rehabilitation.

Qualifications

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

:

· Registered nurse licensed in the State of Iowa

· 2-3 years supervisory experience in a long term care facility preferred.

· CPR Certification must be obtained within six months of hire.
