12 Hour Shifts/nights

Coordinates activities within the hospital including assist with staffing, patient flow, and coordination of hospital activities. Assists as directed in data collection and monitoring aspects of patient care. Acts as a resource person for nursing staff, and also for other departments within the hospital as indicated. Manage situations that arise in the hospital.
Responsibilities

Leadership:
Monitors care given by appropriate team members in accordance with patient needs and the team member’s professional capabilities and qualifications.
Assists in creating a positive work environment by the mentoring of staff/students and working with team members to facilitate initiatives that strive for positive outcomes in quality and care of patients.
Serves as a patient advocate
Complies with all policies and procedures, and assists in guiding team members with compliance. Acts as a role model.
Reliable attendance is an expectation.
Coordinates patient flow and placement to coordinate with staff availability.
Actively involved with supporting new initiatives and continuing t hose initiatives in the off shifts.
Identifies problem situations, develops and implements effective decisions.

Professional Growth:
Assumes responsibility in promoting hospital quality care projects. Specialty certifications and continuing education are strongly encouraged.
Completes annual mandatory education.
Participates in mandatory education and unit meetings per established guidelines.
Complies with all safety goals, infection prevention and risk management policies and procedures.
Supports use of Evidenced Based Practice and incorporates best practices into daily care routine.

Communication:
Demonstrates the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing with all customers and team members. Verbal communication is clear and concise, and written communication is appropriate.
Communicates pertinent care information using first-line communication and promotes a climate of teamwork at all le vels. Notifies unit leadership personnel of issues/concerns.

Collaboration:
Practice indicates compliance with HIPPA. DNV, OSHA and all other regulatory agencies.
Adequately utilizes resources of the organization to include personnel, materials, and equipment.
Utilizes the Patient and Family Centered Care model of care with the combination of the Katharine Kolcaba’s Comfort Theory.
Follows compliance requirements for federally funded programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse. Compliance concerns are brought to the immediate attention of management or the Compliance Officer.

Pharmacy-IV Preparation
Prepare/Mix IV solutions
Follows physicians orders for appropriate medications and concentration
Demonstrates appropriate aseptic technique
Understands and follows standard dilution and preparation procedures
Generates labels following physicians orders
Utilizes on call pharmacist as a r esource for drug information/order clarification

Surgery call in duties
Responsible for surgery scheduling after hours.
Works directly with physicians to schedule next day surgeries
Starts surgery call tree if surgical staff are needed after hours
Qualifications

Minimum Education

Graduate of accredited nursing program
BSN preferred

Minimum Work Experience

  • 3-5 years of clinical experience with a leadership component
  • Demonstrated ability to be an effective leader
Required Licenses/Certifications

Valid nursing license
Certification in specialty area recommended
BCLS, PALS and ACLS certified
