This Pharmacist serves as the Pharmacist-in-Charge and provides daily oversight and coordination of activities in the Iowa River Landing retail pharmacy. It directly provides clinical and dispensing services for the retail setting, immunization administration, clinic order verification, and sterile and non-sterile compounding services. It serves as a role-model/practitioner-educator for Doctor of Pharmacy students and pharmacy residents, and carries out clinical practice responsibilities for the Department of Pharmaceutical Care. Under the guidance of the Pharmacy Manager, the Pharmacy Practice Specialist will also help implement population health strategies in the retail setting.
Duties/Responsibilities Overview (including but not limited to)
- Serve as Pharmacist-in-Charge
- Serve in a leadership role ensuring policies and procedures are in place and carried out, creating and participating in quality improvement initiatives
- Provide exceptional customer service and patient care in accordance with policies and department expectations
- Work with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other health care providers as a member of the multi-disciplinary team
- Provide drug information and education to health care professionals
- Participate with the implementation and monitoring of new programs developed either by department or through other means (P&T committee)
- Assist with the development of goals and objectives for Doctor of Pharmacy advanced pharmacy practice and introductory pharmacy practice experiences
- Provide a leadership role in committees involved with drug therapy

- Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy degree
- Current eligibility for Pharmacist license by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners
- 3 years experience in retail pharmacy
- Immunization certification
- Proven ability to manage complex projects
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.
- Current eligibility for Pharmacist license by the Iowa Board of Pharmacy Examiners
- Previous Pharmacist-in-Charge experience
- Satisfactory completion of an ASHP-accredited residency
- Pharmacy Manager experience (highly desired)
- Job-related experience with DME services and billing (highly desired)
- Job-related experience with sterile compounding
- Knowledge of UIHC Pharmacy policies and procedures
- Previous experience working in an ambulatory clinic pharmacy setting
